In this section we are presenting various facts about Stockholm.
Attractions. In Stockholm there are about 100 museums and attractions. A couple of the most popular are the Museum of Vasa, the National Museum, the Royal Castle, the zoo of Skansen and the Modern Museum. In Stockholm there are also varieties when it comes to theatre and opera. Three examples concerning famous festivals in Stockholm are the Stockholm Jazz Festival, the Stockholm Film Festival and the Stockholm Pride.
Archipelago. For many visitors the archipelago is a popular destination. The Stockholm archipelago consists of more than 30 000 islands. About 100 islands you can reach from Stockholm City with regular boats or bridges.
Nobel Prize. The annual distribution of the Nobel Prize occurs in Stockholm with the Nobel Celebration in the Stockholm City Hall. The celebration takes place with large-scale media coverage. The Nobel Prize is considered to be the most prestigious scientific and cultural prize, and has an exceptional repute all over the world.
World Heritage. Three of UNESCO:s World Heritages are situated in the area of Stockholm: the Castle of Drottningholm, Birka and the Forest Cemetary.
Public transports. The public transports of Stockholm are highly developed and consists of boat (to the archipelago), commuter train, local train, trolley, subway and bus. Many inhabitants enjoy bicycling during the summer.
Sport. The most crowd-drawing sport in Stockholm are football and ice hockey. The largest sports clubs are AIK, Djurgårdens IF and Hammarby IF. Globen (the Stockholm Globe Arena) is the largest spherical building in the world. In the arean there are sporting events, concerts and appearances. The Stockholm Marathon is an annual marathon race through the central areas of Stockholm. The race is the largest race in Sweden with more than 15 000 participants.
